Alright, this is a discussion involving the limitations of my show, which is one I constantly talk about; especially in my commentaries if you happen to listen to them. So let's begin: shall we?
The obvious and real limitation to the show is that it is only a voice show. I know that some people might be saying that there are no real limitations to anything as long as you put forth effort; however, as one knows, comedy can't always just rely on jokes. Sure, several jokes that have a physical/visual part to them can be done without them, but in doing so can take away from the impact of the jokes. In all of my episodes, I have realized that, though the jokes and skits are funny, with the help of a visual means, it would help to produce the maximum humor from the scene.
However, one of the biggest problems with only audio is you can not use sight gags and other jokes that can only be done with visuals. As I have stated in my commentaries, I have had several skit ideas that have fallen flat or just won't work because I'm missing that visual element from the show. This is quite annoying; especially when I have put forth a lot of effort into figuring out how to make a skit work out to only find out it won't work.
Also, another fault with having it only audio is that, the fact remains, more people are attracted and drawn to visuals more than audio. This also applies to me myself as I, for awhile, wouldn't be willing to watch something that was only audio because most of the ones I listened to were quite boring. If it had visuals, which if I had my way would be a mix of original flash drawings, machinima, and sprites, I could put it on newgrounds and/or youtube along with it's current podcast host to increase my views. With more views, obviously that's always a good thing; plus, it leads to the fact that if it's popular I can brag about it to the ladies.
Now, the way I see it, audio is a lot easier than involving visuals. The main reason is that I don't have to have a script written out to know how the show will unfold; as with visuals, you'll need to know what happens visually, the direction, when the lines will be said, etc and just can't be done together like audio. So, while I could possibly do an entire show in a day, excluding music/sfx, audibly, it'll take longer to both record the lines and create the visuals. However, I feel that it would be worthwhile for the extra effort.
So what do all of you feel are the limitations problems with the show as it is?
