This made me so fucking annoyed; especially when one of the senators who voted was the one from my state. Then again, it's not like I actually like him, but meh. So here's the delio, "In 2005, Jamie Leigh Jones was gang-raped by her co-workers while she was working for Halliburton/KBR in Baghdad. She was detained in a shipping container for at least 24 hours without food, water, or a bed, and 'warned her that if she left Iraq for medical treatment, she'd be out of a job.' (Jones was not an isolated case.) Jones was prevented from bringing charges in court against KBR because her employment contract stipulated that sexual assault allegations would only be heard in private arbitration." So in short, this company, Halliburton/KBR, has a part in the contract that says that the employee couldn't sue even if the person was raped... or gang raped. So Congress recently tried to pass a bill that would make such contracts void. Seems like it would be a bill that everyone would vote yes on... but you'd be wrong. 30 Republican Senators voted against a bill that would do that... as they believe that such a crime can and should be solved by mediation and arbitration. Though the bill was passed... luckily. Here's the article.
