I'm not sure if this fits in this forum, since it's not 'producing a song' or the like, but...
I just want to know if anyone plays any actual instruments, or what type you would prefer to hear/play. I myself play trumpet, and find that that's the most pleasing instument to hear. But I do find piano and violin music to be quite good as well.
And speeking of Music, what is your favorate instumental song? Mine would be Lux Aetrna. Beutiful.

Yeah, it was the wrong board. It should have gone in media discussion, but I thought it would be wise to make a music discussion board: so it belongs in there now and is there now. But it no problem.
Anyways, for instruments, I use to play a tenor saxophone and before that a clarinet. That was in middle school, faded in high school, and we ended up selling them for money for college recently. I do have a keyboard and guitar also, but I can only play the keyboard a little and not at all the guitar. However, I would love to learn to play both.
For my favorite instrumental song, I'm not sure, there are so many that I like. However, "Silk Road" by Kitaro actually sticks to me, I don't know why; perhaps because it kinda soothes me. Again, there are several instrumental songs that I enjoy; several from Kitaro.

I have a family member that play's sax. Alto. It's one of the hardest instraments to play right, isn't it? I couldn't even make noise, when prodded and poked at to play.

It wasn't hard for me. I think trying to do the trumpet and flute was hard for me. I couldn't blow right on the flute and I couldn't blow the right way for the trumpet, but I could do it for the trombone.
I personally believe it would be the keyboard, from my limited experience. Several songs require use of both hands (one on treble and one on bass part) to produce two different parts of a song. Treble can be fast (two or more beats) compared to bass which is slower.

That sounds terrible. I am glad I'm not a percussionist; I dont have to learn that. Although, with all the music that is played on keyboards, then I'd think that would be motivation enough to go out and learn it: too good to pass up, lol.

Yeah, would love to learn how to play a keyboard, but don't have really any money to do get a tutor. Oh well, I could always try to keep teaching myself... at least I can do some small tunes when it only requires one hand: part of mario theme, some zelda tunes, and I think a PE song... too bad I don't remember how to do them anymore.

You don't really need a tutor to learn an instrument. There are a series of books out that are good at teaching you this. Starting from the first note, and repeating, to the very last note. Along the way it teaches to read music too... A tutor would be good to give advice though, but anyone who can play could do that. I can play some of Mario on my trumpet, along with lord of the Rings, and Harry Potter, from memory. I can only play Ode to Joy on piano though I do try more. And fail horribly

Yeah, I know, I've got a few books to teach me how to play a guitar, sad to say, they ask me to look at the DVD that isn't with it. Keyboards, I haven't really found one to teach me yet. I just see books with songs.

That seems a little funny (not the humorous kind). What was the title of the instruction book that you have? If you want a GOOD book to learn keyboard, then there's one that I know of... I dont have the title at the moment, but I DO know that if it's got the entire percussion section in it, then It should be correct. To learn keyboard, for beginners... It's for xylaphone, marimba, bells, chimes... all that. Same keys, and all, just I believe this type of instruction book is easier than starting on straight Keyboarding instruction book...
Probably... I've seen keyboarding ones... (and piano). I dont think they focus enough on the actual keys. but I only glanced, so I dont know.

I can't recall what book it was and I don't know where it's at. I would be interested in the book as long as it has some training/instruction on how to work both hands at different tempos and such. Must that I have seen just tell notes or build up from simple songs to complex, but don't help with working both hands with different stuff going on.
I actually have the keys and notes down pretty well I believe.

ahhh; I'll ask my friend whether or not it has that. I'm pretty sure that it does though: when It say's basics and up, it MEANS basics and up. She had to start from scratch and build.
Although, it also has a bunch of drumming basics (how to hold the sticks, how to do the moves as well. dont know what they're called... striking really quickly, repeatedly?), so that's interesting too...

If I only had some drums. Maybe a friend of mine would like the drum section.

I know this is random and off topic, but hey, whatever. The last year I was in high school, one of my friends was wanting to do a band and he wanted me to do drums or bass, something I couldn't do. Then I made the remark, that I could sing (think Weird Al like) and do lyrics. Since I'm not the best singer, he wasn't the best guitarist, and other members of the group weren't going to be that good either, I joked about us creating a band and calling it "The Bad Band" and we would be a joke/parody band. Surprisingly, he actually thought about it and it could have happened... imagine if that actually happened. I might have been the next Weird Al... if only.
I know, that was random, but somehow thinking of the drums made me think of that.

If you had done that, and I had seen the CD or heard it anywere, you would probably be my favorate gag band. It would be played at ever band competition everywhere (comming from a kid where we listened to a song called 'tarzan and jane' for weeks). Why DIDN'T you? You'd have gotten better... There needs to be more bands like that!
